Abstract

A common design approach to the modern full flight simulator is through object-oriented design (based on object hierarchies or object trees) and building blocks of distributed simulation environments. A distributed simulation can be seen as an object tree where parts of the tree (branches) have been distributed. XML also represents a tree structure. XML query languages like XPath and XQuery address the problem of accessing specific information inside the tree structure of XML data. Is there a way of blending XML with distributed simulations? This paper explores what XML can bring to distributed real-time simulation environments.
