Abstract

The presented approach shows how a Topic Map comprised of numerous merged indexes and classifications can be used for navigation and, most importantly, content repurposing and building new and customized publications. The Book Builder was built for Aspen Publishers, a legal publishing firm, and is the first custom-publishing application to allow construction of custom books by using the existing books’ indexes, rather than just their tables of contents. The bookbuilder framework was easily shifted to provides a web interface for navigating the same material. In its web version, the content presented also provides links to primary sources.
